It was a young Sachse team that fought its way into the 2008 postseason, and although the Lady Mustangs were eliminated in the first round, they established a foundation for future success.
Sachse’s efforts not only earned them a play
o
ff berth, but also some individual recognition as well. That came in the form of selections to the 2008 All-District team.
Seniors Andrea and Stephanie Miller made the second team, while Taylor Rid-dle and Am-anda Godfrey, both so-phomores, were honorable mention.
“(It was a) great year,” Sachse head coach Buffy Jester said. “I hope the girls work hard over the summer ready to go next season.”
The overall MVP was Garland senior pitcher Tomi Garrison, who almost pitched the Lady Owls to a third-straight state title.
The Pitcher of the Year was Rowlett sophomore Brianna Rodriguez, while Rockwall junior Haley Lemmons was the Offensive Player of the Year.
Garland junior Kodie Garner and Rowlett senior Jordan Leff were the co-Defensive Players of the Year.
Rockwall freshman Laycee Holcomb was the Newcomer of the Year and Garland’s Cindy Mosteller was the Coach of the Year.
Sachse finished 7-7 in District 10-5A, good enough for fourth place. They were swept in the best-of-three bi-district series by Distrct 9-5A champ Plano.
The Lady Mustangs have made the playoffs three out of the last four years, making it in 2005, 2006 and missing out last season.
First-team selections were handed out to Rowlett sophomore Megan Leff, Rowlett senior Mary Morrison, Rowlett junior Katey Gorsage, Lakeview Centennial junior Sammy Cobb, Naaman Forest junior Brooke Blackford, Rockwall sophomore Amanda Harmon, Rockwall senior Shelby Frierson, Garland senior Fra’Shekia Knight and Garland Rose Stubbs.
Beside the Millers, also named to the second team were Lakeview Centennial junior Erin Wright, South Garland junior Lindsey Owen, Rockwall junior Tina Hinton, Rockwall junior Kat Brown, Rockwall senior Kelsey Harmon, Garland freshman Heather Wilson and Garland senior Kandice Garner.
Other honorable mention selections were South Garland senior Rachel Bouis, South Garland junior Rachel Ball, North Garland senior Kim Loun, North Garland junior Jurianna Woods, North Garland junior Jessica Almora, North Garland sophomore Crystal Goolsby, North Garland sophomore Anais Cruz, Lakeview Centennial senior Laren Lampe and Lakeview Centennial freshman Megan Lynch.
