As a team, the Sachse Mustangs failed to make the playoffs.
However, a number of individuals had an outstanding 2008, and their efforts were recognized recently when they were named to the All-District team.
Leading the way were junior outfielder Johnny Hendrixson and senior pitcher Drake Accord, each of whom was a first-team selection.
Earning a spot on the second team were junior pitcher Daniel Fails, junior catcher Blake Johnson and sophomore shortstop Eric Tate.
“There were a lot of good players in the district this year. Everyone represented their teams well,” Sachse head coach Chris Burrow said.
Earning outstanding individual district honors were Rowlett senior Brandon Loy (MVP), Naaman Forest senior Ty Herrick (Pitcher of the Year), South Garland senior Stephen Niedwicki (Offensive Player of the Year), Rowlett junior Tyler Apple-quist (Defensive Player of the Year) and Rockwall sophomore J.D. Deloach (Newcomer of the Year).
Also named to the first team were pitchers Roberto Gonzalez (South Garland, junior), Cody Fields (Rockwall, senior), Cameron Brewer (Lakeview Centennial, junior), Andrew Smith (Rowlett, senior), catcher Craig Hayes (South Garland, sophomore), first baseman Drew Mayhall (South Garland, junior), second baseman Tyler Alton (Naaman Forest, junior), third baseman Blake Hamblin (Rowlett, junior), shortstop Zack Anderson (South Garland, senior), designated hitter Steve Cannon (Rowlett, senior), utility player Mason Leech (Garland, junior) and outfielders Tevin Hollins (Lakeview Centennial, sophomore), Reed Graham (Rowlett, senior) and David Jackson (Rowlett, senior).
Second-team honors went to pitchers Chris Semchenko (South Garland, junior), Tim Parish (Rockwall, junior), Travis Bellew (Rockwall, junior) and Robert Baker (Lakeview Centennial, sophomore), first baseman Jason James (Garland, senior), second baseman Michael Hatcher (Rockwall, junior), third baseman Estavan Hernandez (South Garland, sophomore), outfielders Richard Parsons (Rockwall, senior), Jesus Guzman (Lakeview Centennial, junior), Andrew Johnson (Rowlett, senior) and Clay Causey (South Garland, senior), designated hitter Sixto Merando (South Garland, senior) and utility player Trevor Eickman (Garland, junior).
The Mustangs finished seventh overall in 10-5A, while Rowlett (14-0) captured the 10-5A crown.
Also making the playoffs this season were Rockwall (10-4), Lakeview Centennial (8-6) and South Garland (7-7)
A year ago, Sachse earned its inaugural playoff berth but was eliminated by Allen in the first round.
Next year, the Mustangs will be part of a seven-team, All-Garland school district.
Rockwall drops to Class 4A to compete in the same district with such schools ad Rockwall Heath and Highland Park.
