Sachses First Baptist Church calls new pastor

Sachse’s First Baptist Church has hired Josh King as pastor. King replaces former pastor Rick Morrow who retired last fall.

Before assuming his new duties May1, he was Associate Pastor Millennials at First Baptist Church in Grapevine.

King said he was very grateful and blessed with the opportunity to serve in the Sachse community.

“Sachse is such a family-oriented community,” he said. “My hope is to minister to people of all ages.”

King earned a Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies from Criswell College and a master’s in religion from Liberty Theological Seminary.

“I felt that God was leading me to pastor Sachse’s First Baptist Church through the warm and friendly atmosphere of the church,” he said. “They have a strong desire to reach young families, and that was something I was excited about.”

King said his goal is to be “in the community and for the community to the Glory of Christ.”

The idea is that the church would be a “breath of fresh air” to the cities of Sachse, Wylie, Murphy and the Firewheel Area.

“One of the largest challenges we’re facing is simply letting the community know we are here,” he said. “ We are not on a major highway in the area, so it is not easy for many of the new residents to know we are in the city.”

King said the church has a “great and capable staff” and they average around 180 worshippers at our weekend worship services.

King said he wanted to invite the community to the July 10 Horseshoes and Games night.

“We’re asking that everyone bring a pair of children’s athletic shoes for donation,” he said. “We’ll be serving lots of food, playing games and having a great time.”

Church member and Sachse City Councilman Jared Patterson said he is excited about the choice.

“My wife and I were very excited to join Sachse’s First Baptist. When Josh King was announced as our new pastor, you could feel the excitement in the room,” he said. “Josh is passionate about his faith and focused on strengthening our foundation.  He really wants to serve our community.”

Patterson said he and his wife liked the church their first visit several years ago.

“The church family and staff were warm and inviting,” he said. “You can tell they really care about reaching out to our community and beyond to share their faith and serve others.  Our membership is very diverse.  We have a great mix from young children to senior adults and quite a few programs to keep them all plugged in.  Pastor Josh King and the great staff at Sachse’s First Baptist are working hard to help us reach our potential following the challenges of the past several years.  We are definitely on the way back.”

King said SFBC is a strong, faith-and-family-based church that strengthens with each day.

“In just one month I have seen our group mobilize to the aid of members and non-members alike,” he said. “We have a fantastic program for students that focuses on discipleship and community as opposed to events and entertainment.”

King said he cannot stress enough how much he and his family love the community.

“The culture and atmosphere here is so friendly and welcoming,” he said. “We are thrilled to see how many cultures and nationalities are represented in the neighborhoods. This is the sort of area that I would love to raise my family. I am also excited about the future development that is targeting our area but hope that we can keep the clean and safe standard of living.”

King said it is very encouraging to him as he speaks with people who have any experience with the church as they all agree that SFBC is one of the friendliest and welcoming churches they have ever visited.

“The great thing about our church is the atmosphere,” he said. “We are just a simple church with one simple job – to glorify Christ. We are not about flash or pretending we are something we are not. We simply hope to be an encouragement for people as they seek God. It is one of those things that is hard to describe but easy to experience. Just walking in the door at one of our worship services, it is easy to feel welcomed and understand why everyone feels at home after just one visit.”

King and his wife Jacki and their sons Haddon and Leland are spending most of their free time house hunting and learning about the area.
